The song Beyoncé sang, of course, was Etta James’ “At Last.” While the song has certainly taken on a new significance this year, it’s got quite a history.

“Interestingly enough, the year Etta James made this song popular, 1961, is the year Barack Obama was born,” Greg Johnson, blues curator and associate professor at the University of Mississippi, told MTV News.

He added that he can’t be sure as to Beyoncé’s reasons for picking the song, but he is willing to take a few guesses. “The title can imply, ‘At last the United States has elected a black president,’ ” he suggested. ” ‘At last the United States has overcome its past fears of people of mixed race, at last the United States has chosen positive vision over the status quo.’ “

Johnson did find a connection that has been evident throughout this entire election — that youth voters have once again found a reason to be interested in politics. “Another spin is that, ‘At last youth may find a connection with politics and become more engaged,’ ” he said. “Whatever the reason, the song will honor not only the Obama family, but pay tribute to one of our finest blues, soul and gospel singers, Etta James.”

It’s been rumored for months, but Andy Cohen and the execs over at Bravo just made it official yesterday.  "The Real Housewives of D.C."…the only city in the "Real Housewives" franchise with a YBF chick outside of the ATL foolishness….has been cancelled.

It’s the first city to get the axe, and Miami may be next.  Deets when you read on…

D.C. had the potential to be a fabulous addition to the "Real Housewives," but they failed miserably with the casting and the psychologically impaired Salahis.  The one cast member we liked, Stacie Turner, was really the only reason we watched.

Bravo has now announced the D.C. ladies are getting the axe, and the network is focusing on their other cities: Atlanta, New York, O.C., Beverly Hills, New Jersey, and the new Miami.

Reportedly, Miami is getting lower ratings than D.C. did.  So they may be out the door next.  Did anybody even watch the Miami chicks?  It was barely promoted and was a replacement for New York at the time.  So the show only lasted a few episodes and was abruptly ended with a random finale.

Oh wells.  While the uber rich bishes of Beverly Hills are my reigning faves, I’m still waiting on the table flipping cash spending Jersey girls to make a comeback.  Can’t wait!

Lady Gaga has no plans to record any new duets for her upcoming album Born This Way – because nothing will top her collaboration with Beyonce.

The two superstars teamed up on Gaga’s hit Telephone last year, and the song shot to the top of the charts around the globe thanks to its controversial Thelma and Louise themed video.

And the Poker Face hitmaker is adamant no future collaborator could come close to Beyonce, and she wants to shine as a solo star on her highly-anticipated second studio album, set for release in May.

She said during a radio interview, “I want to stand on my own two feet. I’ve already collaborated with my favorite female in the business. We’ll see how I’m feeling when I’m wrapping up the album.”
