BEYONCE KNOWLES: I Donated My Money From Gaddafi A Year Ago!
The industry was up in arms yesterday about Beyonce, Usher, 50 Cent, and Mariah Carey taking "blood money" from Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi for performances, and actually keeping the millions.
But after Nelly Furtado came out about giving away her stash to charity, Beyonce also announced that she did the same. Read on for the deets….
Beyonce performed back in 2009 in St. Barts for the Gaddafi family’s New Year’s Eve event. And she reportedly received a million dollars to do so, much like her counterparts Usher, Mariah, and 50 Cent had received from the family at one point.
But with the outrage in Libya and the war crimes of Gaddafi now coming to a head, demands have started flying for the celebs to return or donate the monies they received.
Beyonce told the Associated Press today that she donated the money a year ago, after finding out about the Gaddafi connection:
Beyonce says she donated money she received for performing for the Gaddafi clan to Haiti relief efforts more than a year ago. The superstar made the revelation in a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press.
Her announcement comes days after singer Nelly Furtado tweeted that she had gotten million from the Gaddafi clan to perform in Italy in 2007. Furtado says she’s donating that money to charity. Beyonce’s publicist says she performed at a private party on the island of St. Barts on New Year’s Eve in 2009. Once it was revealed that the performance was linked to the Gaddafi family, she gave the money and commissions to earthquake relief in Haiti.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is being investigated for possible war crimes.

Fashion Week Handbags: Chanel Fall 2011
Oh, Karl Lagerfeld. You had me at The Cure.
There weren’t many handbags to be found on the catwalk at Chanel Fall 2011, which struck me as something of a surprise. Chanel fully acknowledges the place of leather goods in its company history, and normally part of its enthusiasm for accessories spills over onto the runway in the form of lots of goodies for handbag lovers. This time, though, there was relatively little to see.
What we did see in the goth dystopia that Lagerfeld created in Paris’ Grand Palais was quite good. Most of the bags were of the chain-strapped flap variety, but Lagerfeld got rid of the brand’s iconic quilting and leather-woven handles to give a starker take on a Chanel classic. Little quilted hand-held bags were spotted here and there, but mostly the models walked with their hands empty, perhaps in a nod to the bleak-chic setting of the show. Although I’m disappointed to not have seen more bags, now I’m even more excited for press previews. Chanel wins again.

Jay-Z and Beyonce to appear on Dr. Dre’s Detox album
Jay-Z and wife Beyonce are back to making beautiful music together again.
An unknown source told a British newspaper that Jay-Z and Dr. Dre recorded verses for an unnamed track for Dre’s upcoming final album Detox, and that there was space left in the track for Beyonce to deliver a chorus. This comes as big news as the megastar power couple has not recorded jointly since 2007 on Jay’s American Gangster album on the song “Pray.”
The full quote from the source read: “Jay and Dre have recorded their verses with the chorus left open for Beyoncé to sing. The producer has worked on Detox for over a decade. He wanted the couple together.” Jay and Beyonce have paired up on hits songs many times such as the Grammy winning “Crazy In Love” and the sweeping “Bonnie & Clyde” tracks.
If the news of the collaboration holds true, the list of confirmed features for Dre’s last opus include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Akon, Skylar Grey and buzzing young Cali rapper Kendrick Lamar. Rappers The Game and Slim Da Mobster also have been listed to appear on the record along with English electro pop duo La Roux. Dre has already released two singles from Detox, “Kush” and “I Need A Doctor” –with the latter receiving video treatment and serving as a launching pad for Skylar Grey’s heavy buzz and skyrocketing career.

Beyoncé and her mother, Tina Knowles, have noticed something: The words “House of Deréon” don’t mean anything to potential customers. (It sounds made-up and insignificant, but according to Wikipedia, the name Deréon comes from Beyoncé’s grandmother Agnèz Deréon, who worked as a seamstress.) “Sasha Fierce,” however, resonates with young (possibly misguided) girls who might buy Beyoncé and Tina’s clothes. So they’re launching a new line for back-to-school called Sasha Fierce, inspired by Beyoncé’s stage presence. Tina describes the collection as a reinterpretation of Beyoncé’s Thierry Mugler costumes.

However, conceptually the collection differs greatly from Sasha Fierce’s stage costumes in that the clothes are “subdued” to draw attention to the accessories. They include:
… a one-shoulder dress, black bodysuit, fake leather jacket with oversize collar, leggings, and destructed jeans with mesh and lace details lining the ripped material.
Emphasis ours, because nothing’s sure to wow an eleventh-grader’s love interests — and teachers — like Beyoncé’s signature black bodysuit, which is the only outfit that can take a girl from second period to triathlon practice to a bank robbery. Tina describes the accessories as “really over-the-top.” They include the usual shades, chains, and shoes, all as oversize, embellished, and metallic as possible. It all sounds perfect, except the merchandise list lacks two key elements: the metal glove and the money fan.

Lady Gaga Says Fame Was Her ‘Destiny’ In New HBO Promo
‘There was never a question in my mind that I was gonna make it,’ singer says.

In a new promo for her May 7 HBO special, Lady Gaga recalls her rise to fame. Sitting in a car, her pals by her side, the Mother Monster explains that she always knew she was going to make it and that she woke up one day “and the delusion was real.”
“There was never a question in my mind that I was gonna make it and that this is my destiny and that we were all gonna make it as the kids of this city, as the New York generation,” she says, driving through the streets of New York to Madison Square Garden where she taped the concert portion of the special.
“My faith in my creativity and my artistry has nothing to do with making it,” she continued. “We kind of had already made it when we were playing for nothing downtown. … We still felt like we were superstars.”
She goes on to credit God for her success, as shots of her in the car are edited with ones of her in a deli getting coffee, walking down the street in a skimpy leotard and leather jacket, and greeting fans from her SUV. Later on, in the middle of a prayer, she says, “They used to always tell me, ‘You will never be a star because you’re too ethnic, you’re too Italian, you’re too out there.’ It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you come from or how much money you’ve got in your pocket. You have your own destiny and your own life ahead of you.”
This is the latest tease for the special. On Monday, in a promo, Gaga cried about her lingering feelings of inadequacy. “I start to think about all the people that have tried to stop me, and I get this super-intense fury. … I just sometimes feel like a loser still,” she says. “It’s crazy ’cause we’re at the Garden, but I still sometimes feel like a loser kid in high school. And I just got to pick myself up and I have to tell myself I’m a superstar every morning so that I can get through this day and be for my fans what they need for me to be. But sometimes I still feel like people are trying to destroy me.”
Previous teases have shown Gaga hitting the streets of New York, dressed in a studded leather jacket and high platform ankle boots, as “Born This Way” plays in the background. That same promo showed the madness at MSG leading up to her show, footage of which is also in the clip. In the second, shorter preview, shots of her performance are revealed as her new single, “Judas,” plays.
